Tschudy Family Members in Ohio in the Moravian Church

As you may know, I will be posting information on various branches of the Tschudy family whether directly descended from them or not. If we trace back far enough, the family springs from the same family, so there is a relationship no matter how distanced by time and geography. I hope this information that was generously shared by Mary (her email addy is noted below) will prove helpful to other Tschudy researchers. The Tschudy's listed below come from another Canton in Switzerland than did my Martin Tschudy.

The widowed Sister Catherine Tschudy, nee Merkly, she was born 11 Feb 1760 in the village Laausen in the Canton Basel in Switzerland, and was raised in the Reformed Church. On 27 January 1794 she married the now deceased Brother Martin Tschudy. Their marriage was blessed with 3 sons and 1 daughter of which one son preceded her into eternity. In May 1805 she was in this area. On 22 Nov 1807 she tasted her first Holy Communion. On 5 Jan 1821 she became a widow, since her husband "went home" (died). Of two of her children she enjoyed three grandchildren. She died at the age of 65 years, 6 months and 11 days.

The married sister Dorcus Elisabeth Tschudy, nee Peter, was born 29 of March 1803 here in Gnadenhutten. Her parents were Brother David Peter and his deceased wife Dorcus. After she spent almost 7 years in the "Correction School" (could be "Boarding School") in Bethlehem she came here in December of 1814 back to her parents. On 14 Apr 1816 she was accepted into the congregation and received communion on 12 Sep 1819. On 23 Apr 1821 she was married with the now several times widowed Martin Tschudy. Her marriage was blessed with a 1 daughter. She died of Gall bladder fever at the age of 20 years, 5 months, and 1 day.

Martin Tschudy, a husband, born 8 Apr 1796 in Canton Basel. He was accepted with his parents into the community on 19 May 1805, made his first communion 30 May 1819, and entered into the state of matrimony on 21 Apr with the single sister Dorcas E. Peter, in which he produced 1 daughter. On 31 Aug 1823 his wife died, and in Oct 1827 he entered into a second marriage with the single Matilda Johnson, in which he produced 3 sons. A few weeks ago he fell from a building, which was the cause of his end. Age 39 years and 11 days.

Lewis Josias Tschudy - Step-son of John Ginther and son of Martin Tschudy and his wife Matilda, now Ginther. Was born 21 Jul 1830. With his parents, he had just returned from the Ohio and seized on the 22nd with As. Cholera. He was buried the same evening without public service by S. Wolle and a few friends.

Johannes Tschudy, a single member of the Community, second legitimate son of the deceased Martin Tschudy and his still living widow Catherine, nee Merkly, born Jan 1800 in Lausen in Switzerland with the single sister Elisabeth Werner, first legitimate daughter of the deceased George Werner, and his widow Catharina, nee Becker born 15 Jul 1804. The marriage was performed by Brother Rauschenberger in Sharon.

Jacob Blickensderfer, Jr., a single brother, son of the married Jacob Blickensderfer and his first, now deceased wife, Regina, nee Kranker - Kramler? with Maria Louise Tschudy, a single sister from Dover, daughter of Martin Tschudy and his wife Dorcus. they were married herein Gradenhutten by Brother Tilze in the house of Brother David Peter, the grandfather of the bride.
